Philosophy of Care:

Dr. Alexander Turfe wants his patients to know their time is valued and to ensure they have a one-on-one relationship with their physician. He is humbled and honored that they chose to see him in this chapter of their lives. He understands that they often do not realize they are in pain until there is a loss of function. In their first meeting, Dr. Turfe listens to their story, so he can find where their pain is generating from and how this affects their quality of life. Once he has an idea and orders the appropriate tests, if necessary, he wants the patient to understand what treatments are available. At this point, the patient will have a plan formed specifically for their needs. His goal is to ensure it is efficient and fits the timeline they expect, so they can successfully turn the page on their pain and move on to the next chapter.

Growing up in the Metro-Detroit area, Dr. Turfe’s goal was always to one day serve his community. He studied Biopsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and completed his medical education at Michigan State University. This allowed him to complete his internship year within the Henry Ford Health System, followed by his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation locally at the DMC, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Turfe advanced his training by completing a fellowship in Anesthesiology / Pain Medicine, also at the DMC, to further understand the relationship between pain and function.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Turfe is an avid fan of Michigan football and all Detroit sports. In addition, he enjoys trying out new local restaurants and visiting the Detroit Institute of Arts, where he favors exhibits from the Impressionism Era. Dr. Turfe is fluent in English, Arabic, and Spanish.
