Philosophy of Care

Chris Childers believes in a cooperative approach between the healthcare staff and the patient to achieve optimal health outcomes. He then takes this approach along with evidenced-based care and the patient’s informed choice to help build an individual health plan that best suits the needs of each patient. Chris believes in culturally sensitive, spiritually respectful, and holistic care to be delivered across the lifespan so the patient can return to their home, work, and community in their fullest capacity.

Background

Chris is originally from Wyandotte, Michigan but has lived in many different areas in Michigan from Grand Rapids and East Lansing to differing cities surrounding Detroit. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Chris worked as a staff nurse for 14 years on a pediatric neurosurgery and endocrinolo- gy unit. He has a strong sense of philanthropy with involvement in Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s Annual Cereal Drive, Habitat for Humanity, ASPCA, Michigan Humane Society, Vietnam Veterans of America, Red Cross, and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Chris has earned many awards, but he is most proud of his Employee of the Year Award from Children’s Hospital of Michigan and the Loretta Ford Nurse Practitioner Award from the University of Detroit Mercy. The Loretta Ford Nurse Practitioner Award is given to the NP student that best exemplifies the Jesuit and Mercy traditions while going above and beyond the standard delivery of care. When not caring for patients, Chris enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, listening to music, and going to concerts.
