"As a Rehabilitation Neuropsychologist, I get to listen to my patients' experiences, then help them to use these experiences to reach their full potential. That's what makes life interesting and exciting."
As a Rehabilitation Neuropsychologist at RIM, Dr. Hanks assesses the emotional and cognitive abilities of her patients, and then crafts a treatment plan to help them achieve their personal and professional goals. She also teaches at Wayne State University Medical School of Medicine, where she is a professor in three different departments. She has earned numerous awards for work co-authored with her mentored students, primarily in the area of traumatic brain injury research.
The breadth of Dr. Hanks' clinical interests is evident from the wide variety of subject matter for which she has been awarded grants, ranging from cognitive behavior therapy on caregivers of soldiers with traumatic brain injury, to examining depression in adults with spinal cord injuries. She is widely published in her field and is often sought as a presenter at medical seminars.
Dr. Hanks' has a loving and happy family of whom she is very proud. One of her favorite quotes is by Nelson Mandela, who said, "A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination."
