PHILOSOPHY OF CARE:

Dr. Steven Rives believes in the importance of the doctor-patient relationship, listening to his patients, showing compassion, and ultimately empowering the patient in their medical care. What sets him apart from other physicians is his personality, sense of humor, and most importantly, his bedside manner.

BACKGROUND:

Dr. Rives was born and raised in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He earned his Bachelor of Science with Honors degree in Physiology from Michigan State University. While at MSU, he studied abroad one semester in London, England at The University College of London and King’s College London-School of Medical Education studying Medical Ethics and the History of Health Care. During his Internal Medicine Residency Training, Dr. Rives was Co-Chief Resident and received numerous awards for his academic excellence. These awards include achieving the highest score on the in-service exam and scoring above the 90th percentile in the entire country on the in-service exam for two consecutive years. He has also presented multiple case report poster presentations at medical conferences. Dr. Rives has a passion for teaching and research. He also has a particular interest in treating patients with Diabetes and researched this field during his residency training. He created diabetic protocols and protocols for treating Diabetic Ketoacidosis patients for the hospital. Dr. Rives enjoys the complexity and diversity of Internal Medicine and also treating patients with COPD, Asthma, Rheumatologic diseases, Infectious diseases, and Migraines. His father is a podiatrist, and he has been exposed to and around medicine his entire life. He also has cousins who are physicians, so medicine runs in his family. Dr. Rives’ parents still live in Farmington Hills, and he has an older sister and two nieces and a nephew who live in West Bloomfield. Dr. Rives currently lives in Wolverine Lake and enjoys Traveling, Boating, Golfing, and going to MSU and Detroit sporting events.
