Philosophy Of Care
As a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Dr. Yusuke Terasaki considers it an absolute privilege to care for patients and repair their hearts. His primary role is to provide the patient with accurate information about their condition or diagnosis. That usually includes defining the best options of treatment that are available and tailoring them to meet each individual’s particular needs. His mission is to always offer the most up-to-date therapies to his patients and their families.
Dr. Terasaki has a particular interest in humanitarian surgery, which stems from his service as a high school biology teacher in the United States Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa. He completed his general surgery residency at the New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell and Memorial Sloan Kettering. Following his residency, he spent a year between Sierra Leone in Africa and the Navajo Nation in Arizona as a trauma/general surgeon. Having practiced in nontraditional surgical settings taught him the importance of being creative and resourceful in the operative room. Dr. Terasaki completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and is excited to reunite with his mentor, Dr. Kenton Zehr, at the DMC Heart and Vascular. When Dr. Terasaki is not seeing patients, he enjoys tennis, snowboarding, cooking, and traveling. He is fluent in English and Japanese and proficient in Spanish and Twi (Ghanaian dialect).
